Collapse scuppers NYSD Junior Fifteens title hope

GUISBOROUGH were unable to prevent Barnard Castle becoming inaugural winners of the Teesside University NYSD Junior Fifteens.

Guisborough suffered a convincing 10-wicket defeat to the County Durham side in the final at Redcar.

They raced out of the traps as James Lines (22) and Dan Allinson (21) put on a rapid 41. But Allinson’s run-out sparked an almighty collapse as all 10 wickets fell for just 25 more runs, and Barnard Castle made easy work of knocking off the runs.

In the first semi-final Barnard Castle beat Great Ayton by two wickets.

Ayton recovered from 38-5 to post a challenging 116-5, with their batting heroes being Matthew Timms (46no) and Elliott Fitzpatrick (27no).

Castle looked down and out on 60-7 before they turned the game.

The second semi featured a great bowling performance by Guisborough’s James Bolton. He took 5-14 in his three overs to leave hosts Redcar with just 68 to defend, and then James Lines (43no) secured a nine-wicket win.
