GAI Waterhouse could be just four days away from joining an elite club of horse trainers - headed by her late father Tommy Smith - to have reached a century of group 1 winners.

More Joyous's remarkable George Main Stakes victory at Randwick last Saturday was Waterhouse's 99th victory at the elite level, and with four group 1 races at Randwick on Saturday, she is odds-on to this week become just the fourth trainer to make it to 100 group 1 wins.

Smith trained 282 group 1 winners and holds sway over Bart Cummings, who continues to narrow the gap despite his age and recent illness and injury with 261 winners. Lee Freedman, with 125 group 1 wins, is the only other trainer to reach the milestone. The late Colin Hayes finished on 98.
